The Dark Knight

SNIPPETS.

"Daddy, why is he running away? He didn't do anything wrong."
"Because he's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now...and so we'll hunt him, because he can take it. Because he's not a hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector...a dark knight."

Does that remind you of someone oh-so-familiar already or what?

"God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." 2 Cor 5:21

Jesus wasn't a hero. He didn't reign triumphantly. He was crucified on a cross.
Like a lamb led to slaughter, he was silent.

"He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth." Isaiah 53:7

2 ships, 2 groups, 2 detonators.
Midnight.
They had until midnight to decide their fates.
Kill, be killed, or perish anyway.

All Batman could do was track down Joker and remove the detonators from Joker's possession, but he could not stop the 2 groups of people on the ship from pushing the button.
It was up to humanity.

And I loved the analogy.

Jesus has saved us, but we're his hands and feet on this earth.
It's up to us to choose what we're going to do in this lifetime.
You can be a William Carey, Hudson taylor, William Booth or Teresa of Avila.
Or you could be a Hitler.

My favourite bit?
On the ship where all the criminals were waiting for their fates to be sealed...
The man's face came into focus. There was a certain sense of purpose in his eyes. He had just made a decision to act. You could see it on the lines of his face.
He rises quickly to face the captain, who was holding the detonator in his hands, guarded by a few soldiers.
With a few brief lines, he convinced the captain to hand the detonator over to him, declaring to do "what anyone of us should have done hours ago".
The captain hands the detonator to him. He throws it out of the ship window.

I just knew the thugs would have a greater sense of morality than the civilians.

"Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn."

Does that sounds familiar?
Like Shwing said, I find the Joker a very apt representation of Satan, the fallen.
All he wants is chaos, and to bring the righteous down.
Like Harvey Dent.
